The Göttweiger Messwein, or Altar wine, has been an institution in this Benedictine monastery, for centuries. It is vinified as light fresh wine with fruity aromas of passion fruit, pineapple and grapefruit. The flavours are full and generous, showing zesty lime notes and more grapefruits with a long finish with a touch of white pepper.
2023 Heinrich Hartl Gumpoldskirchen Rotgipfler - £25.99
A fine bouquet of fruit aromas, ripe peaches, juicy apricots and fresh pineapple. Followed by spicy components such as fresh brioche and green hazelnuts. The palate is impressed with fine, complex aromas. Elegant acidity is leaving a mouth watering impression.
2023 Waldschultz Weissburgunder Fels Am Wagram - £26.49
A deep yellow with a gold tint to it. On the nose this wine re-minds me of dried herbs paired with floral hints. The wine on the palate has a elegant richness with a delicious aromatic finish to it, with hints of hazelnut and a touch of caramel can be found. It does not only offer a delicate spice in taste but the finish lasts on the tongue for quite a while.
2022 Stift Gottweig Pinot Noir - £21.99
An elegant ruby-garnet colour with delicate mauve nuances. The bouquet shows cinnamon spice, vanilla and a fine confit of red berries. Elegant and juicy on the palate, with good length on the finish.
2021 Lentsch St Laurent Reserva - £24.99
An intense, bolder style of St. Laurent, filled with fresh bramble fruit and ripe blueberries. It has a slightly smoky edge, combined with a dense and robust grippiness yet still very approachable. Good depth and complexity.
2021 Allacher Altenberg Red - £33.99
Michael Allacher does it again, this time with an award-winning three-way blend of St. Laurent that brings brightness and lift, Merlot, giving plush fruit, and Cabernet Sauvignon kicking up the structure and spice. Fruit forward with lots of dark berries, the wine is texturally spot-on and will be a joy to drink for any red wine lover.
