Coteaux d’Aix en Provence is Provence’s other great rosé appellation — less famous than Côtes de Provence, more varied in its terroir, and producing wines of a character and a distinctiveness that reward those curious enough to look beyond the famous pink bottles of the coast. Domaine Oddo is a characterful estate with a genuine commitment to expressing the true personality of this beautiful corner of Provence, and the blend here is a particularly interesting one: Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault are the classic Provencal trio, but the addition of Counoise — a rare, ancient variety that adds a distinctive freshness, a bright acidity, and a floral lift that is entirely its own — gives this rosé a complexity and a character that sets it apart from the crowd. Pale blush-pink in the glass, with fresh red berry, nectarine, and a whisper of citrus blossom on the nose. Dry and beautifully balanced on the palate, with a richly woven texture, vibrant acidity, and a clean, lingering finish. Versatile enough for any occasion — but at its best on a warm evening with good company.
