Furmint is best known as the backbone of Hungary’s legendary Tokáj, but in the hands of Triebaumer in Burgenland, Austria, it reveals an entirely different and equally compelling character. Shining straw-yellow in the glass, the nose is fresh and expressive — ripe pear, green apple, and pineapple are lifted by a delicate quince note and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate it’s focused and energetic, with that signature racy acidity that makes Furmint so food-friendly and so moreish. A beautifully compact, vibrant white that is well worth discovering.
