Braida Antica — the ancient field. Where the Neri draws on the red varieties of Russolo’s historic estate in Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Blanc is its white counterpart: a field blend of six estate-grown white varieties — Sauvignon Blanc, Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio, Müller-Thurgau, Friulano, and Chardonnay — grown together, harvested together, and vinified together in the way that Friulian farmers have always made wine, before the age of single-variety bottlings and the tyranny of the varietal label. Friuli Venezia Giulia is one of Italy’s great white wine regions — a north-eastern corner of the country where the Alps, the Adriatic, and the influence of Central Europe converge to create conditions of extraordinary aromatic intensity and freshness, and where the indigenous varieties — Ribolla Gialla, Friulano — sit alongside the international grapes with a naturalness and ease that is entirely their own. Russolo vinify the Blanc with the same precision and patience that defines everything they do: fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel with carefully selected yeasts, no maceration to preserve freshness and clarity, six to twelve months on the lees for texture and complexity, and a further three weeks of bottle refinement before release. The 2024 is a wine of real aromatic exuberance and elegance: pale straw-yellow in the glass, with a bouquet dominated by yellow fruits — ripe peach, pineapple, and hints of apricot — framed by floral notes of jasmine and zesty lime, and given a lovely spiced depth by delicate white pepper and a touch of ginger. On the palate it is vibrant and fresh, with a crisp, bone-dry finish and a light, agile character that makes it one of the most effortlessly drinkable and genuinely interesting whites in our range. At £13.99, it is Friuli at its most aromatic and alive.
