If you haven’t yet discovered Timorasso, this is the bottle to start with. From the Bricco San Michele vineyard near Sarezzano in Piedmont — a southeast-facing plot of limestone and clay soils — Claudio Mariotto crafts one of the region’s most compelling expressions of this ancient, characterful grape. Hand-harvested and fermented spontaneously in stainless steel, then aged for a full year on the lees, the result is a white of real depth and personality. The nose is intense and layered — chamomile, ripe yellow plum, and white blossom, with a warming, almost honeyed richness. On the palate it’s concentrated and silky, with a distinctive mineral backbone and a long, toasted almond finish that lingers beautifully. A genuinely exciting wine from one of Italy’s most intriguing indigenous varieties.
