Paul Hobbs arrived in Mendoza in 1989 and saw immediately what others had missed: that this high-altitude, semi-desert landscape at the foot of the Andes had the potential to produce wines of world-class quality. Over the decades that followed, he built Viña Cobos into one of Argentina’s most celebrated and respected estates — a winery whose meticulous vineyard farming, classical winemaking philosophy, and deep respect for terroir have produced wines that stand comparison with the finest expressions of their varieties anywhere in the world. Felino is the more approachable and expressive face of Viña Cobos — wines that bring Paul’s winemaking vision and the extraordinary quality of Mendoza’s finest terroirs to a wider audience, without compromising on the authenticity and precision that defines everything the estate produces. The Felino Cabernet Sauvignon draws on vineyards across both of Mendoza’s most distinguished sub-regions — Valle de Uco and Luján de Cuyo — at altitudes ranging from 700 to 1,200 metres, where the semi-desert climate, the intense Andean sunshine, and the dramatic diurnal temperature variation between warm days and cool nights allow the Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen slowly and completely, developing the aromatic complexity, natural acidity, and fine tannin structure that are the hallmarks of great Cabernet at altitude. The winemaking is equally considered: fermented with a combination of selected and native yeasts in closed-top stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity and freshness of the fruit, then aged in French oak barrels to add structure, complexity, and a subtle spice that integrates beautifully with the variety’s natural character. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon of real purity and refinement: deep red with ruby tones in the glass; aromas of cherries, red fruit, roasted pepper, and black pepper on the nose — vibrant, complex, and completely appealing. On the palate it is pure, rounded, and beautifully balanced, with a long, satisfying finish that speaks of the altitude, the terroir, and the skill of the winemaking. The accessible face of one of Argentina’s greatest estates — now available as a six-bottle case at a special price.
