2022 Domaine Gramont Beaune 'Les Épenottes'

Eight barrels. That is all that was made of this wine in 2022. Eight barrels of village Beaune from one of the most extraordinary plots in the appellation — a finely situated 0.3 hectare parcel that sits at the very southern limit of Beaune, touching the boundary of the Pommard Premier Cru Épenots. In Burgundy, geography is everything, and this vineyard’s position tells you everything you need to know about the character of the wine: on the cusp of two of the Côte de Beaune’s most celebrated appellations, drawing on the best of both, and producing a Pinot Noir of a depth and complexity that goes far beyond its village classification. Domaine Gramont — whose Puligny-Montrachet Les Houlières is one of the finest white Burgundies in our range — bring the same precision and passion to this red, and the result is a wine of real distinction and character. The 2022 vintage was exceptional across the Côte de Beaune, and Les Épenottes shows exactly why: seductive and fresh on the nose, laden with intense red berry fruits that are pure and vibrant and deeply expressive of the terroir. On the palate it is supported by a fine, elegant tannin structure that speaks of the Pommard influence just across the boundary, with a long, fresh, and earthy finish that lingers with real class and persistence. A wine of genuine rarity — and at £39.99, one of the most compelling bottles in our entire range.
