Some wines are simply historic. The 2001 Luce from Tenuta Luce is one of them.
Luce — meaning ‘light’ in Italian — was born from one of the most celebrated collaborations in the wine world: the Frescobaldi family, custodians of Tuscan winemaking for over 700 years, and the legendary Robert Mondavi of California, joining forces in the Montalcino hills to create a Super Tuscan of extraordinary ambition. A blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, it was conceived to marry the soul of Tuscany with the richness and structure of the New World — and in the 2001 vintage, it achieved something truly remarkable.
Twenty-five years in bottle have transformed this wine into something of rare beauty. The colour remains intense and vibrant, a deep ruby with purple hues that belie its age. The bouquet is breathtaking — an elegant, refined tapestry of ripe cherry, dark forest berries, and chocolate, with a complexity and depth that only comes from decades of slow, patient development. On the palate it is lavish and seamless, with perfectly integrated tannins, a flawless balance of fruit and structure, and a finish that builds and builds — a crescendo of flavour with a haunting mineral note that lingers long after the glass is empty.
This is a wine to open for the most special of occasions — or to treasure a little longer. Either way, it is an extraordinary privilege to be able to offer it.
